DarkSky International Recognizes Resort’s Commitment to Reducing Light Pollution
DENVER (April 16, 2025) – ULUM Moab, a luxury outdoor resort with two-MICHELIN Keys, is now DarkSky Approved. The designation comes from DarkSky International, the leading global authority on reducing light pollution. This recognition is awarded just two years after ULUM Moab was introduced by the team at Under Canvas, the leader in upscale outdoor hospitality. As light pollution increases by nearly 10% globally each year, ULUM Moab demonstrates that human-built spaces and the natural night sky can coexist, offering a truly unique experience. The resort has implemented lighting practices aligned with the rigorous DarkSky Approved program, which is based on five principles for responsible outdoor lighting at night established by DarkSky International. These practices help reduce skyglow and glare, minimizing disturbances to the nighttime environment and enhancing the stargazing experience for guests.
Set on 200 acres of desert landscape, the resort features architecture that blends with the natural contours of the land and includes a collection of upscale canvas tents designed to minimize environmental impact. In addition to its intentional, elevated yet low-impact design, the resort offers an elevated hospitality experience with hotel-style amenities such as upscale dining, dipping pools and wellness activities. In alignment with its new certification, ULUM Moab also offers DarkSky-themed programming, including guided stargazing and accessible outdoor fire pits for evening enjoyment under the stars.
Notably joining five Under Canvas camps across Utah and Arizona that share this accolade, ULUM Moab is now part of a prestigious list of hospitality properties around the world that are committed to reducing light pollution and protecting the nighttime environment. This is an initiative Under Canvas is proud to have helped introduce to further inspire other hospitality brands to follow suit and drive impact.
